Fire system inconsistencies
I compiled a list of things that in my opinion just don't make any sense when it comes to fire making, in no particular order:
- Charcoal can be used for mapping, but doesn't burn
- Conversely, coal burns but can't be used for mapping
- Cloth doesn't burn and can't be used as tinder, either
- All fires generate charcoal, even those without any wood
- Speaking of which, why do normal campfires generate charcoal, anyways?
Charcoal has to be made in the absence of oxygen, so the water and other volatile chemicals evaporate but the carbon remains. Charcoal doesn't just magically happen. - The choice (or absence) of tinder doesn't influence the chance or time required for making a fire
- Paper can be used as tinder, but can't be used as fuel at all
- We can't get tinder by ripping out pages from books!
- 100g matter in the form of a newspaper rolls transmutes into 200g of tinder
- Every fires is hot enough to cook water...
but small fires are not even hot enough to warm up the player's hands - Most fires produce embers, but some fires (even large ones) don't
- It's easier to make a fire with a fire striker that generates sparks than with matches which produce a small flame
- And it's just as easy to make a fire with a magnifying lens than it is with a burning torch
- The player dumps a whole can of 100 ml of accelerant for just one fire
- Similarly, it takes 300 ml of lantern fuel to make one fire
Fires magically last twice at long when they're made outside
Shouldn't fires in wood stoves, shielded from the wind, last longer than in flimsily made campfires?- Bic / Zippo lighters don't seem to exist in Nothern Canada
Hey, maybe we could even fill those up with lantern fuel - that would be a cool mechanic!
Hinterland, now that you're breaking save game backwards compatibility, this would be the one time you could make these changes happen! Pretty please :)
Edit: Crossed out fire burn time outside, this doesn't seem to be the case anymore. And I realized I chose a pretty stupid post title.
