Test drove a volt - any way to have the regenerative breaking be automatic?

It seems so bizarre to use a paddle to brake, on the Tesla, regenerative breaking is basically a toggle in the settings. Take your foot off the accelerator and it brakes automatically.

Having to use a paddle to brake seems dangerous. I'd imagine most don't bother and just use the brake pedal. Anyone with more info? The dealer wasn't aware of a way to do this.
