Moving to the East Coast, USA..

Not entirely sure where to put this, but thought IWantOut was appropriate. Let me know if there's a better subreddit and I'll shift over.

I've been given an opportunity to move from the UK to the US with my current company, initially a couple years assignment. I've been told I can stay anywhere in Central/East Coast, as long as I'm near a big(ish) airport.

I'm struggling on where to pick, I've currently got Boston and New York on the list. I am not a fan of London (UK) so I assume I might not like the busier cities like NYC but I thought I'd visit anyway.

I'm looking for somewhere relatively chill but still popular amongst young professionals, I'd like to take advantage of this situation and at least enjoy myself whilst I'm there initially. I won't have an enormous budget but I've been told I'd be able to stay in most places (other than the centre of Boston/NYC). I'm in my mid-twenties and on my own, so I'm hoping I'll be making friends once I'm over there - I'll be working remotely so no office colleagues to help me out. I am not good with heat, I've been told to stay away from Florida..

Any suggestions - anything I should look out for? If I'm being vague as hell let me know and I'll update the post - I get it's not much to go on but appreciate any insight! I've been given 2 weeks or so to go on a trip to discover some of the cities, so I need to pick a few to begin with.

Thanks
