Let's be honest. Diversity hire, am I just a joke at most places? How do managers view their diversity positions?

Now don't get me wrong here, I am definitely not against diversity. As someone who gets multiple diversity rolls due to being both disabled and a minority on two fronts, I'd be the last person railing against it.

However, everywhere I go, it feels like I'm treated like some kind of retard who can't handle basic things. My first job as a programmer was mind numbingly easy, and I was never given any actual important projects. They kept coming up with random things to give me, and I would eventually run out of stuff to do because it was too easy. So I'd just sit there browsing the web and researching.

The second job was even worse, I was essentially relegated to a corner fixing code for a massive SaaS platform that's probably bigger than most projects out there. At first, it was understandable because they wanted me to learn a new technology stack than I was used to. This was a 3 month project that was finished in 1 week with no prior knowledge of the stack. Very simple project, really. Next project is joining the main team, but I was done with this 3 month project in 2 days. So they had me working on 4 teams, all doing easy things... unfortunately I spent 90% of my work hours doing almost nothing while several others were coding 12 hours per day, so I ended up spending that time to learn and maintain dozens of skills, and picking up random projects that nobody else wanted. Eventually I left because there was nothing to do.

And every other diversity worker I've met seems to have suffered the same fate.

Then I joined what I feel is easily the most awesome company I've ever worked for. This one is a bit different, but I still feel like I was only hired to fill some sort of diversity quota. At the very least, I'm constantly busy with very important work after having spent a lot of time proving myself.

And finally, how do you managers really view folks such as myself? I just want to say that we are all capable of performing at or above the same level as our non-diverse peers, so please let us handle the hard stuff too.
