My boyfriend is moving along in his faith journey, but I am starting to get restless and want him to be further along than he is. I could use some help and prayers.
We met in March 2016, and have been together since July 2016. I am 20, he is 21. He was an atheist when we met, but I told him about God and my faith from a non-judgmental perspective (something he didn't have before). He then explained that he wanted to believe, and has been working toward it ever since.
I have always been a Christian, but recognize that going from 0-100 takes time. I want to be here for and support him, but I am also feeling like there is a void in our relationship because we can't pray together or go to church together. There are times when I want to defend my actions with faith as well, and he of course doesn't get it.
I want to stay with him, but also feel as though I'm "missing out" on a Christ-centered relationship. I know I'll have it eventually with him, so I guess I just need to work on my patience.
We have taken a break before, and he stated that he would still pursue God even if we broke up, so I know he's doing this for the right reasons. That said, I asked if he'd want to read the Bible with me sometime, and he said no because, "I'm not where I need to be for that. I won't take from it what I need to." I began to wonder how, exactly, he's furthering his faith if he's not even willing to read the Bible, and he said he's still in the figuring out why he needs it phase.
I need help here. I don't want to abandon the relationship because he really is an incredible man, but I also want to have a relationship that I can't right now because he's not "there" yet. I don't push it down his throat, and try to only ask about it once a week so it's not overbearing, but am I wrong for questioning whether this will actually happen?
For the record, I did not go into this relationship wanting him to change. I loved him as he was before he decided to pursue faith. However, my personal faith has gotten a lot stronger over the past year, and it's now more important to me to have a believing partner than it was before. Just wanted to explain that first, as I don't believe that missionary dating is a good idea. :)
