Understanding an event

Hi all, I've experimented with Dwarf Fortress a few times over the past couple of years and have gotten the bug again. I was going through PeridexisErrant’s tutorial and I think doing ok, have a fortress with 57 dwarfs, in my second winter. Anyways, I had a dwarf go Berserk and then die and now I'm trying to piece together what happened.

Kivish Wheelscommon first came to my attention when she was standing in a bedroom, seeming to lurk over the sleeping occupant. I looked at her thoughts and preferences to see if I could figure out what she was doing, after about five minutes I realized she was married to the man sleeping in the bed.

I wondered if she was upset because she didn't have a bed herself in the room, or they needed a double bed (if that's even possible) but her only thought was, "I am doing fine." Just in case, I made another bed in the room. Checking a while later it appeared that the bed was being used so I assumed things were ok.

Like a year later I get an alert that she canceled her job and went berserk. I checked her thoughts and preferences again to see if I could get an idea of what was going on but nothing out of the ordinary was there.

Then she died.

In order to put things together I made a copy of my game and ended the fortress and went into legends mode. Her entry included this:

"In the midsummer of 125, Kivish settled in Bronzetunnels.

In the midsummer of 125, Kivish became a member of The Diamond of Grottoes.

In the late winter of 126, Kivish was struck down by Dakost Silveryboot with a steel battle axe in Bronzetunnels."

So, Dakost killed her. I looked up Dakost's info, but nothing stood out other than she killed Kivish.

Looking at her husband thoughts and preferences he was upset because he was in a fight, got pulled into a conflict, and was pretty beat up.

So, because of all that, my assumption is she went beserk, started beating up her husband and Dakost happened to hear it and try to interviene and Kivish attacked Dakost, so Dakost killed her with an axe.

But I don't know why Kivish went berserk.

An her husband doesn't have any bad feelings about the death of his wife, is that unusual?

I feel like what I'm doing isn't the most efficient way of figuring out what happened. Is there something I'm overlooking?

Edit:

After continuing my investigation it looks like two out of three of her infant children have bruises. Her husbands status said he joined an existing conflict. So, she went beserk started beating on her kids and he joined in the conflict to stop her, until Dakost came by?
