Don't know if this was the right way but it was funny
So I had two players arguing over the next course of action. It was slowing down the game and neither was budging so I had them make opposing persuasion checks. And of course after modifiers they both rolled exactly the same. Sigh.
Not sure what the proper way to handle it was...but seeking humor here's what I did.
I said that their arguments were SO convincing that now they had switched sides--now they each bought into the other ones idea. So I made each player make an argument on behalf of the other guys idea. So now they rolled again but for the other players idea. This time one of them won, and everyone was cracked up. It actually worked well because the player whose original idea lost now "won" and it was such an unusual situation that it took the sting out of losing.
(Of course the idea that won might get them all killed next session ...)
