is 256 GB enough storage for a user switching from a PC to Mac?

I was wondering how quickly storage goes up on a Mac. I'll be coming from a 1 TB HDD PC laptop so I'm a bit used to having a lot of space so 256 GB doesn't seem like a lot. Is it enough or should I get a 512 GB Mac?
