Walked Eevee for Espeon but ended up with a Jolteon instead. What happened

I had my eevee set as my buddy for 10 km in a row and definitely collected 2 candies at least. I left it as my buddy when evolving during the day and ended up with this: https://m.imgur.com/a/tMYxF

Could the event have interfered with the candy/distance count?
