Coconut oil & Canola oil only soap, is my formula fundamentally flawed?
Hi, first thanks for reading and giving advise.
I'm sorta new to mixing oils. I've made 30kg+ worth of pure coconut oil (mostly 20% super fat, some lower % superfat for testing purposes.) using mostly cold process and occasional hot process for quick access. I'm pretty confident with the basic soap making procedures.
Now I'm looking to get into mixing oil. I've read it's a 'taboo' to use more than 30/40% coconut oil unless it's a pure coconut oil with high superfat. I'm looking to challenge that and see if anybody here actually have experience with this.
I'm planning to do 70%/30% Coconut to Canola Oil (veg shortening), so i'll mix those 2 together with no super fat/no lye discount first to trace, add my essential oil and 1:1 weight of oil to Solar Salt/Brown Sugar.
Edit: My canola oil (veg shortening) is solid at room temperature. not hard, but sits sorta like a trunk of cheese.
Then add in 20% (before salt/sugar) melted coconut oil as superfat. mix n stir more.
I've read somewhere canola oil has similar properties and can be used as economical substitute as olive oil in terms of moisturizing. I'm using high coconut oil in this case to get better lather in a exfoliating bar. PS: cold process
Does my formulating and procedure has any fundamental flaw? also if it sounds okay, how long does it "usually" take for this ratio of oil need to cure before use?
Appreciate for any input!
