Contacting deceased father

My father passed away On Father's Day last year and it's been plaguing me because I didn't get to see him much because of the amount of travel he did for work. I'm not sure if this is allowed, but you all seem to be very knowledgeable about the afterlife and I didn't know if I could contact him or if it was a bad idea. I'm 18 if that makes any difference in how much I should be snooping around in the afterlife. I just would like to let him know I love him and still think of him daily. Any suggestions/advice are welcome
