Can my friend and I use our custom characters locally from our respective accounts?

My friend and I both are going to get the game. I have it already and have begun to customize my own characters. If he gets it on his PS4 and customizes his own character, could he use it if he came over to my house and signed into his PSN account? It seems silly that you put so much effort into our characters but can only use them on your personal ps4. Any input?
