Lookout Android security

Any reviews on Lookout's latest offering? It is baked into my mom's T-Mobile phone and, after spending several minutes trying to get the VPN-based web protection to work, I am wondering if there are other options. It has been replaced by Chinese apps on AV Comparatives and AV Test, and it is a premium on the bill that seems unnecessary.
