What should I do?
So let me explain the situation I am in right now. I hope to get some good honest feedback on this.
I work at company x. I got hired through a recruiting agency 4 months ago with this position that is "Temp to Perm" so I knew that nothing is guaranteed. I was still excited because it's a good solid position for a recent grad like me looking to break into his career. When I started working there, everything was going well and within a month and a half, my Account Manager told me he likes me and wants to hire me soon, but that they still have to sort a lot of things on the back end. I was ecstatic to hear that news and was looking forward to working there as permanent employee.
2 Weeks after I was told this, they hired another guy with the same title as me, basically the same position. I was a bit confused by this as first since my workload was very light and the work load in general for everyone seemed that way as well. Me and new guy get along really well and have common interest. I found out during one of our conversations that he got hired through the same recruiting agency as well as the same recruiter as me. So that made us connect even more.
Fast forward 2 months after he was hired, we had our usual team meeting and when my manager got to him, he told everyone to congratulate him because he will now be a permanent employee. I was shocked to say the least. I felt betrayed because of all the conversations I had with my manager before about him wanting to hire me, to know that someone who came with the same education, around the same age, does the same work I do get the permanent status that eluded me. So after feeling this way, I asked myself what differs him from me. We both have a bachelors degree, both of our schools aren't any special or different, we both have similar work experience and skills, we both do the same work.
There is one difference though. I am not Caucasian, my background is Bangladesh. Looking around at all my co workers on my team, I am the only one of ethnic background. So I ask you guys, do you think that I am being discriminated or can it be something else. I've honestly been thinking of what reason can that be for, and I can't find any.
