Budgeting to solely save money, what's the job?

Budgeting

Hi all,

My money has jobs, rent, groceries, etc. I have seen people in tutorials create a category called "Emergency Fund" to build up savings by assigning money for that job. I am not currently concerned about an emergency found. What I am wondering about is my general savings.

For example, I have gone through the month and budgeted out all of my upcoming expenses and I am left with $800. I don't want to budget this towards more groceries, dining...I just want to save it for next month and so on. I know I will have a hefty cost for the vacation that is in July so seeing this money not put to a job is good in this context.

The only "next step" I can think of is creating a new category for money to be saved. I created that sub-category called "Building $" under my True Expenses master category. From there, the remaining $800 I have is put into the Building $ because I don't want to assign it jobs in any other category. I just want to save it.

What I'd like to know, is this the "correct" way to save money in YNAB? Is there a better method that I am overlooking? After all, the whole point if budget is to save and build up money. (At least for me)

Thanks for your help

Edit: I believe I figured out a method that will work for me now. u/btfftb , u/stalklikejason and u/justaprimer helped develop my ideas for how YNAB can work best for me. I appreciate all the other comments for their helpfulness.
