Opinions on Fire Emblem like games?

main sub is large and intimidating tho

So this is coming as someone who has written a shitton of Fire Emblem plots, played a lot of ROMhacks, and knows absolutely nothing about the games that were developed after Kaga left IntSys, your Tear Ring Sagas and Berwick Sagas and the like. How do you guys feel about those games? Do you guys feel anything at all?

And more generally: who thinks there's a niche for games that play similarly to, but not quite like, Fire Emblem? Advance Wars filled that hole but seems to be...less than relevant at the moment. And Fire Emblem itself seems to be going in a new direction that some people like more than others (and that is all I want to say about that particular point THANK YOU) Do you guys think there's a niche for more character-driven strategy games? Or does Fire Emblem in all its incarnations fill that need for you? What would you want to be done differently, or added?
