How long does it take to get used using a ps4 controller?

I just picked up a ps 4 the other day. This is the first time I've ever owned a playstation console. I've always been a xbox owner and an occasional nintendo console owner. I think I've avoided getting one all these years because the controller never felt right to me. I think I will always just prefer the xbox controller.

Are there certain type of games that will be harder getting used to playing on the controller? I started playing Last of Us and the controls feel ok to me but still just feels weird.

It's bad enough that I own a switch as well and it throws me off whenever I play it for extended amount of time. The A and B button functions are kind of the opposite of how the xbox controller functions
