Soldier of the Year Board (NG/Reserves) , what's it like?

Who has been to one in the NG/Reserves? I had time left on my MSO so I decided to try the POG life in the nasty girl for a year. Two drills later, I find out I'm being nominated for the SotY board because I went to the boards to get my stripes while on active. "Oh, you're familiar with the FMs and ARs" was the reason my first line gave me.

What are they like? Do I have to study like I did for the E5 promotion boards? I just want to coast my way for the remaining 6 months, can I decline? I've spoken to my E5 and E6 (surprise! NG took my E5 because I didn't have WLC) and told them that I don't want to go. I've been told to suck it up and study. I don't get why I'm being forced to when my APFT is only 210, my marksmanship is only 30, I'm ETSing 4 months after the board, there are two other soldiers in my section who need the chance to show their abilities, and I simply do not give a shit.
