Auto-close a window after accepting alert or confirmation popup?

Is it possible to automatically close a browser window/tab after someone clicks on an alert box? I am working on some code which will only execute on mobile devices. The code opens a new window which automatically generates an alert or confirmation box. I want to close the new window when the person clicks on either the "yes" or "no" from the alert box.

Right now I am only testing on iOS since that is what I have access to. This alert popup is being auto-generated by the iOS Safari browser and is not part of my code.
