Question regarding battery and 9v jack wiring in my first build

Hey guys, I'm doing my first build, a Foxx fuzz kit from Musikding.

The wiring schematic provided is this

My question is, if I don't include the battery connector, where does the ground wire from the input jack to the connector go? Directly to 9v jack big lug, essentially bypassing the battery?

Also, the middle lug from the 9v jack, does that become unused?

Appreciate if I could get some clarification, thanks!
