SL1 ceaseless Discharge question

I discovered on accident that he can get stuck and will die as an essential one shot on another character.

It seems this is the way to kill the boss, but I. Ant get him to jump at me. He stands back and launches fire.

Any idea how to get him to jump? Is there a trick to it?
