Keyboard Next button above keyboard vs return type?

I want to know what you think/know the best practice to be regarding keyboard next etc. buttons.

I have seem some apps that have buttons just above the keyboard that will say prev next done etc. Wheras other apps just change the return type button to say done/next/etc..

Besides lacking a prev button in the latter option....what is the standard or best practices?
