Does anyone know of a good secular organization you can sponsor a child or family through?

My daughter's daycare had a Compassion International experience today and she fell in love with the idea of sponsoring one child and writing to them. However, they are very very very religious so I don't want to go through them. Is anyone aware of a secular organization like that? Google found me a couple, but I wanted to see if anybody had real recommendations based on personal experience.
