Texas - Auto Accident Negligence Lawsuit Advice

Hello all,

First off, I would like to thank everyone for reading this post. We have been dealt some very bad news today, and I do not know where else to turn for advice. Today, my father was served papers for a auto negligence lawsuit.

Here is the backstory: A year or so go, my sister was involved in a pretty bad car wreck. She ran a red light, and turned right while traffic was on coming. She was struck by the driver of the other vehicle. The accident was pretty bad, but neither party suffered any major injuries. No blood, no broken bones, but the other driver did leave to the hospital by ambulance.

My father was not driving the car, or at the scene at all. The vehicle was registered to my sister, as she is the owner. My dad may have been paying for her insurance. As far as I can remember, the insurance covered the accident. A year after the accident, my father was served at his house with lawsuit papers from the other party.

What do we do?

  • First, my father had nothing to do with the accident, so I don't see how he can be sued for negligence.

  • Second, my sister has since moved out of the country.

  • Third, my sister does not have the type of money my father is being sued for.

Thank you again for reading this post. I welcome any advice this community can provide.

Edit: more words, grammar.
