Souls

Finite, visible, tiny, and white are souls. A soul: it is in the center of the body and supports the mind, and is not vital for life though you'd be unfortunate not to have one; after death, the brain's consciousness falls into the soul and it descends into the Haze for preservation. Due to the time spent in the Haze before rebirth, most people forget everything they knew.

The soul draws essence from Aer to power its functions and sustain itself. This can be quickened by depriving the soul of essence, allowing it to strengthen; it speeds up and holds more while keeping the same size.

Do you wonder where you are during a dream? The soul allows the mind to play in Aer, constructing fantasies during its unconscious times. It shapes the clouds in the sky, the essence, into a landscape of imagination. The body is not here, only the mind, so death cannot occur.

During birth, a soul finds its way into the new lifeform. Only intelligent beings are chosen, and animals are not. By random chance, a soulless may be introduced to the world; they die a true death, and should rightly fear it, for only they face oblivion. In many cultures, the soulless are given benefits to aid them in their only existence. They miss out on dreams and soul based magics with no recompense.
