Is $39k a year (pre-taxed) enough to survive in Phoenix?

Hello. I am from San Francisco and will move to Phoenix, AZ for work. Actually, my job is in Chandler, AZ so I am hoping to live in Tempe or Phoenix or somewhere cheap. I am willing to live with roommates.

I am wondering if $39k (pre-tax) is enough for me to survive in Phoenix, or at least live paycheck to paycheck?
