My window replacement experience...so far

Just an interesting story for anyone looking to replace their windows/doors in the near future.

My current house is built in 93, windows are deteriorating , we got water in between glasses during rain period last summer, so we decided to replace couple windows. I went onto Homestar and looked for few companies for estimates. I reached out to about 5 different companies, 3 were exterior renovation company (one of them did some work for my house last year) 2 were well known manufactures here in town.

First: Boulavard Exterior, whom did the work for me last year, came to my house and measured all the window. total amount was over 35K. Main reason was because the patio door was not a standard size, it will cost them 5K to do it.

Second: SIS Exteriors, their ads were on 770 for a while. A guy came over, saw one of the huge ass window I have in the living room and said their manufacture in Ontario cannot do window that size, so he recommended two manufacture in town for me. Also educated me on windows, what E level I need, etc. Told me that dual pane isnt much different from triple, no reason to go to triple. Super nice guy.

Third: Gienow Renovation/PlyGem, I was not at home when they came for the measurements, but quickly got a quote within a week. Sales was good on email communication, spoke about different construction, trims... very patient with all my questions. Quote was surprisingly different than the first quote I received. little bit over 20K, compare to 35K. I was bit shocked that the dual pane vs triple was only within 1K different (total 14 windows and 1 patio door). Asked him about dual or triple, he then explained the E difference and the effects, didn't push me to choose.

Fourth: Lux Windows. A lady came in and did all the measurement. Super excited telling me how good their product is, how their window is better than their competition with specific technology. Told me that he toured their glass manufacture, how much of a difference dual vs triple, I should go to triple... little bit aggressive on the sale side. Pulled out her laptop and printer in my living room, showing me models. Super friendly. She then told me that she will give me the quote next week, did not hear from her for a week, texted her and got nothing back....

Fifth: Local Renovation(i think that was the name). I believe the owner and their sales came over. Super friendly as well. Asked them about dual vs triple, typical answer, E level difference, less condensation in the winter... Told them about the experience with the previous companies, they wondered if their quote will come close to the two manufacture. Also telling me the two manufacture uses the same glass manufacture from US. Told me quote will be ready in few days and never heard back from them again.

Last week, met with sales from Gienow that provided reasonable quote. Showed me samples in their showroom, different type of glasses and my options. My original quote with them were 21k for dual pane. Asked him to quote me triple pane. I was testing the sales, because i've read some companies would charge up 1k per window on the upgrade simply because people are willing to pay for it. Quote came out to be 22K. Only 1K difference for all 15 windows. I was pretty happy with their honesty, decided to upgrade the glass and add protective film. Final quote came to 24K. Scheduled final measurement and install date with them. They told me installation takes about 4 days, I was shocked again, previous company told me it take 4 weeks lol.

I sent them the deposit this week, got final measurement done yesterday by their manager, waiting for installation now.
