Does Sponsorship / being sponsored mean something different in beauty guru circles compared to others?
I see a lot of talk about how someone hasn't disclosed whether or not a video is sponsored and I was curious if sponsorship or being sponsored was different in beauty guru circles compared to others. For the record, I come more so from the artist circle of youtube.
Sponsored or being sponsored for me means being actually paid for the review. You may be sent products and they will be sponsored in the sense that you got products in exchange for the review, but you ultimately received no payment for giving a specific review or you will be sent the product in exchange for your thoughts on it but nothing to actually influence your thoughts. Basically, you have a product to review but get no money or compensation to review the product. You don't ever really hear the saying "I got sent this in PR" or anything similar. Being affiliated with links or discount codes is also separate from a sponsorship.
So for BGs and in the BG community, does being sponsored mean the same thing in the artist YT community, or does it mean something a bit different? Does it pretty much vary between BGs and commenters or is there a more uniform definition for it?
Bonus: Recommendations for alternative BGs on YT? Fashion is a plus but in particular, I'm looking for goth, pastel goth, etc. I follow Alexa Poletti and BiohazardousBeauty and want to follow more.
