[Event] Mass Shooting in Medford, Oregon Theater.
Gun control has been a large source of concern for many Americans involved in politics in the last two decades.
Unfortunately, many people's greatest horrors came true when a gunman opened fire with a semi-automatic pistol in the Cinemark Tinseltown in Medford, Oregon, on July 6, 2019. The gunman is reported to have purchased tickets to the latest Avengers movie before shooting the ticket booth employee and turning to open fire on the crowd standing in line. Luckily, bulletproof glass separated the teller from the gunman, and she was unharmed. Unfortunately, the gunman killed 6 people in the line behind him, injuring 8 more before turning the gun on himself.
The shooter's name has been released as Harold Kempman, a 51-year-old accountant from nearby Jacksonville, Oregon. It is reported Kempman suffered from mental issues.
As election season enters full swing, this tragic event has taken over headlines. Democratic candidate Chris Murphy, a Connecticut-based politician whose policy revolves around very strict gun control, has seen a small burst in support, taking over John Hickenlooper in Gallop polls. The age-old gun control debate has sparked up once again in American politics, and this time, it seems the American people are even more divided than before. Many left-leaning citizens are becoming more convicted with their pro-gun control beliefs, while the Right has begun pushing their agenda even harder.
The Medford shooting is a great tragedy, though it will not be forgotten easily, as the power of US media and politics use it as just another pawn in their political games.
