Adding 240V to garage.

I am looking at adding a couple 240V outlets to my garage. After some researching , it seems the best option is to run EMT around to where I want the new drops, with junction boxes spaced every 10ft or so for future additions. I am considering doing all the EMT/wire running myself and have an electrician hook it to the main panel. Probably run two circuits, one for a dust collector and one for other various wood working equipment to start. Any thoughts or advice? Last time the electrician charged me 1000 dollars to install two 20amp circuit breakers and two outlets directly under the panel, which I thought was a bit pricey. Thanks!
