I don't know what's going on.
Ok, I want to share my dream of a modern Star Wars Holiday Special. Made for this generation; A 2 hour Netflix/ABC collaboration to fit into the Star Wars Canon. Released on Christmas Day, 2017, Life Day - 10 days after the world watched The Last Jedi.
Life Day appears onscreen in the Star Wars yellow. The tune is the classic Star Wars theme, but something is different. It is a lone horn performing solo. It is a somber, moving take on the uplifting song, and it is stirring.
A yellow crawl rises before the backdrop of black with white stars.
Just one month after the destruction of Hosnian Prime, the galaxy is in siege. All out Galactic War between the RESISTANCE and THE FIRST ORDER is imminent.
Rumours of a battle on the distant mining planet of Crait have made their way to the public on the planet of Coruscant, the acting Capitol Planet of what remains of the NEW REPUBLIC.
Fear is in the streets, and the galaxy is in need of a new beginning. On the first Life Day since the Hosnian attacks, an aged Wedge Antilles has traveled to Coruscant on a secret mission for a longlost ally.
The crawl fades, and the camera pans down. The trumpet music goes silent. Coruscant.
We are taken with the atmosphere in the next shot, hovering quickly over the endless cityscape that makes up the surface of Coruscant. The Life Day song once performed by Carrie Fisher, is being sung by a choir. The tune is no longer synchronized to the Main Star Wars theme, but carries it's own, melancholy melody.
The camera brings us over an impossibly large stadium. It is full to the brim with peoples of all alien races. Holoscreens all around the stadium have been tuned to read. "A day that leads us into might." "A day that makes us want to celebrate the light."
Chorus comes to a close with:
"A day that brings the promise that one day, we'll be free to live To laugh, to dream, to grow, to trust, to love, to be."
There is no applause.
A delegate from Coruscant rises before the crowd. Seperate shots show us her face on holoscreens all over the city, in offices, on holoboards, even on the on the wall in a seedy bar down at Coruscants bottom level.
Returning to the stadium, LONOL DAQ-NU begins to speak.
"I have long cherished that song. Through times of peace and peril, it has always been there to guide us, guide me, into a new year."
"The attacks on Hosnian Prime are nothing short of tragedy the likes of which this galaxy has rarely known. Not even Alderaan proved so fatal. So horrific."
The crowd stirs, the Alderaan attack was engrained in the public consciousness, but mention of it from politicians and public figures were rare, a symptom of a galaxy-wide need to move on from the horrors of the Galactic Civil War.
"The souls lost in the Hosnian System will not have been in vain. Though they are gone, the song survives. - We will return from this darkness and find light to end this conflict.
"The year ahead may be a difficult one. But I must implore, do not give up hope. May we all be guided through it, to sing this song again."
LONOL raises a Vigil Beam above her head. A small jet back cylinder. He ignites it and a ball of white light erupts at the end.
LONOL calls: FOR THE HOSNIAN SYSTEM
Vigil Beams take light all over the stadium.
The next shot returns us to the Cantina on the bottom level. A haggard looking Wedge Antilles puts down his drink. He reaches in his pocket and removes a small Vigil Beam of his own. He turns it on, and turns it off.
A faint grin streaks across his face. Wedge Antilles finally knows how it is he will help LUKE SKYWALKER.
This is all I have. I know there's a million problems with this probably, but screw it, I just thought of this and really felt like sharing this. :)
