Selling a Rifle to a Friend in Texas

Sorry if this has been asked but I was hoping to get some answers on this. In a couple of weeks I am flying to Texas on business and a buddy of mine wants to buy one of my rifles.

I know for the California side I have to do a Notice of No longer Possession but my question is do I have to take it to an FFL in Texas or can I just give it directly to my friend and get a bill of sale?
