[NY] need to get an estate lawyer but have a questions about jurisdiction

So I will have to get an estate/probate lawyer to force an estate audit and to contest the validity of a will. What determines which court will handle the legal proceedings? My parent resided and passed away while living in NYC but I reside in Westchester county, and it was suggested I should get a lawyer who is based closer to the court that will handle the case. Will the court be based on where the case is filed through my lawyer, or where the will was made and my parent resided (NYC)? Thanks.
