Google ever going to fix inability to add images to gallery on emulator without restart?

Simple enough to drag and drop images to the emulator. They don't appear in the gallery until you shut down emulator and start it back up.

Under Dev Tools there is a tool called Media Provider with a handy [Scan SD Card] button but it always just crashes.

Caused by: java.lang.SecurityException: Permission Denial: not allowed to send broadcast android.intent.action.MEDIA_MOUNTED from pid=29575, uid=10026

Has been this way for a LONG time. Anyone have a work around? Why even keep putting these tools on the emulator if they don't work?
