Two questions about minors and elective/non-math courses as a CS major.

I'm going into CS co-op this fall and have some questions.

1. Can a course be counted for both my major and a minor? Say I take one CS course that is also part of the requirements of a minor, would that count as 0.5 units for CS and 0.5 towards that minor?

2. What's the difference between non-math and elective courses? I see I need 5 non-math and 3 elective units to graduate and don't know why they are separate (I'm assuming they are not the same and require 8 units total).
