I'm pretty sure I left it at home...

Short

Yesterday, someone found a iPhone in a meeting room at the University and they brought it to the Servicedesk because there was nothing on it to identify the owner. We plugged it in to a PC and it came up in iTunes with a username. Perfect. We looked up the phone number and called it to confirm. Phone rang. All we need to do is get the employee to come pick it up and we're done.

Not so fast. Here's how it goes when we call her.

My Tech: Hi PersonWhoLostPhone, your iPhone was turned into the Servicedesk. It was left in meeting room H1012.

PWLP: Oh, I'm pretty sure I left it at home today.

My Tech: Um, no. We have it here.

PWLP: No. I don't think so.

My Tech: We've confirmed that this is your phone. We've called your number and it rang. You can come get it, we are open until 8PM.

PWLP: I'm pretty sure it's at home though. I will check when I get home tonight.

Sure enough she didn't come by and pick it up. We figured she would come in and pick it up this morning after discovering that she had not, in fact, left it at home. but no....

Different tech gets call from this user who is having login problems. Gets her logged in and remembers that there is a phone here for her to pick up.

Other Tech: I just wanted to remind you that your iPhone is here for you to pick up.

PWLP: Oh, I'm sure it's here at home.

Other Tech: No, it's here.

PWLP: I'm calling it right now so I can find it.

Phone starts ringing in our Servicedesk Area.

Other Tech: It's ringing here. Please come and get it when you are on campus.

PWLP: . . . That is really weird. (hangs up)

About 20 minutes later the phone rings again. Same number. She is still looking for it at home apparently. We notice that there is actually 3 missed calls. It looks like she phoned the number last night as well.

It is now past lunch time. She is on campus. She has not come to pick up her phone.

UPDATE

She came in today to retrieve the phone! Only 5 days since we first received it.

Djxiii: Hey! You finally came to get it. It's been here so long the battery died.

Hand over the phone. She looks at it quizzically. Flips it over a few times.

PWLP: What? Is this my phone?

Djxiii: Yes.

PWLP: That's weird. Oh well. Thanks.

leaves

For the life of me I cannot figure her out. How does she get by day to day? Microwave ovens? Bank machines? Can she use them or not? I just don't know!!
