This Boy Killed Himself Because Of This Text.

I've Heard So Many People Call This Guy An Asshole For "Having Done That To His Family". I really don't understand how people can have that point of view. Being suicidal myself, and having been held back by police and family, being restrained and having had knives and other sharp objects hidden from me. I understand how you can come to the conclusion that my own time has come, and there is no reason to not kill myself.

I know I personally have come to a "reason" to keep going, and that's because I would leave my wife and pets in financial ruin if I were to leave. Between that and manic cycles, I keep going, but I think about death a lot still, and I think it's unfair to say that suicide is selfish, or that you're an asshole for committing suicide.

In this kid's case, what do you expect him to do? When all of your peers just keep telling you to kill yourself, at a certain point, you just want to do it. I know that I have a relatively caring group of people around me from day to day, and I still feel the urge to drive my car off a cliff, or drive slowly through a dangerous neighborhood, or stab myself. Aside from driving off a cliff, I've made several suicide attempts, with various degrees of commitment. Sometimes it's scary to make that decision, and in a way, I think this kid was brave for being able to follow through with it.

Anyway, I thought I'd open this up to discussion. Personally, I can see where suicide could be considered selfish, but at the same time, we all die eventually anyway, and I believe that we each have our own right to die. I'm mentally ill in with a few different diagnosis, so I'm probably not the best judge of character when it comes to it. But ultimately, I think that suicide is less destructive than what some people do with their lives.

I hope I don't come across as morbid about this. I just think it's very unfair to call this kid an asshole for what he did. I respect his decision, and I understand what it's like to be on the edge, and I never really had bullies around me. I hope it was quick and painless for him. I hope his suffering came to a peaceful end.

Also as a note. I want to make clear that I'm not supporting suicide itself, and I don't want to come across as "glorifying" it. I also don't' want to come across as encouraging anyone to do this themselves. So, please don't kill yourself. Find meaning in your own lives, and find those things in life worth living for. Whether it be family, friends, or going on adventures you have yet to fulfill. Be happy, when and where you can. There are moments in life truly worth living for, and I know it's hard to find those moments sometimes. But for all of those that have friends/family whom have killed themselves (I have a couple myself), please respect them enough to not call them assholes for leaving you. It's not really fair, I don't think.
