My friend said I'm ugly

Right now I feel the lowest I've felt in such a long time.

I'm incredibly insecure about many things, one in particular is how I look. I spend a great deal of effort trying to convince myself that I'm not as hideous as I sometimes feel.

Earlier today, a friend of mine casually dropped 'you're no oil painting' (not sure how common this phrase is, but it means 'you're not attractive').

I don't know why this hurts me so much, but it really does.
