How can you tell these are fake? Also, hep me understand this sneaker obsession.

Hey people - I know absolutely nothing about sneakers, but stumbled across a thread from r/all about the Adidas Y3 Pure Boost Knit.

I found out people will pay over $1k for a pair. I was totally fascinated by this - I mean I knew people were in to sneakers, but this is a whole 'nother level.

So I did a real quick google search and found the following for $150. I assumed they were fake, which someone quickly confirmed. Aside from the price, can someone explain how to tell they are fake?

I also have a few other thing I'm curious about:

Do you actually wear them, or keep them for show?

Are you super paranoid when wearing an expensive pair? I'd be terrified if dirt, rain, food spills, etc.

How does the average joe afford this stuff? Is there a used market?

What's the end goal here? Like, enthusiast or not, most people will recognize certain high end products - cars, jewelry, some clothing, electronics, etc. I would have to assume that 99% of people have no idea that you sneakers are rare/expensive/special etc. I also assume that they aren't significantly more comfortable than normal sneakers. And they aren't for performance, mostly just walking around. So what gives?

Hope this isn't rude. I just feel I discovered something new and am genuinely curious. I have my own niche hobbies so kinda get it, but would like to understand you guys more.
