Question about Pathways

I just started laying down paths in my town and I loooove the way it looks! However, I noticed that once I started adding new designs to my inventory and swapping out the old ones, the tiles I had placed previously (I had a little pumpkin patch and carrot patch) were replaced with pathway tiles. Is there a way to keep those small floor designs (pumpkins etc) while having my design inventory full of pathway tiles? Or if I have it full are those the only designs I can have on the ground?

Thanks in advance for your help! I'm really hoping I can somehow have other things on the ground in addition to the path designs!
