Tax filing for international students

I did not file my taxes for the income generated last year and the year before that simply because I earned less than $3000 during both years and I was told by a few sources that it's not a big deal. But now that I am applying for a new visa, I want to clear out any outstanding debts. I am considering hiring professional tax help but I would appreciate good advice on how to go about this from people here.If there's anyplace which has volunteers who can help me fill out the 1040 nr itself, that would be great too. I really don't want to shell out cash on tax prep.
