Landlord charging 3x the deposit for repairs

Relevant facts:

  • In the US, Central Pennsylvania

  • Landlord bought the building with about 5 months left in my lease, they never did a walkthrough or signed a new lease.

  • the repairs are for things like paint and carpet cleaning (the carpet part is especially silly, it was worn through in spots before I even moved in)

  • I don't have a walk through or detailed images either, but I do have images of the apartment from previous tenants showing it to be in about the same condition.

Firstly, how does one go about taking someone to court. My knowledge is a lot like Michael Scott.. I've tried shouting "I sue you, REmax!" but nothing is happening, may be doing it wrong.

Secondly, will images sourced from social media and acquaintances showing the condition of the apartment prior to my lease be useful?
