[DISCUSSION] I used to get made fun of for being bad at guitar, and tomorrow I’m opening up for my favorite band

DISCUSSION

I’m about to gush but I wanna share and encourage anyone i can with this. So the short version of my story is I have autism, and grew up in a fairly abusive home/church. My parents made me go to a super conservative christian school, and at that school there was this huge emphasis on musical ability. Like they had this worship program developed by these very famous worship writers and their kids went to this school, so it’s program is still locally famous, and if you wanted people to like you, you either played football or music. I’m not an even remotely coordinated guy so football was out. I taught myself how to play guitar and bass, and would audition for this band to make friends and would get relentlessly mocked and made fun of for not having nice gear and not being as good as everyone else to the point that i tried to kill myself when i was fifteen. But i took all of that rejection and poured myself into my instrument because I loved it and not only became the best guitar player at my school, but i was accepted to a school of music for college. I had the same situation, and had to learn and push myself and succeed where i had no where near the opportunity and privilege of most of my peers. Well, i started a band and we’ve been having some success, and even put out our first record lasts month, and tomorrow, we’re opening up for Hail the Sun, which is one of my all time favorite bands. I’m shaking and can’t sleep because I’m so excited, and I wanna encourage anyone who wants to give up because it’s hard, and it is hard. If you want it, and fight for it, you will succeed and grow, and no one can stop you no matter what. I am not naturally talented at all, and through busting my ass, my dreams are starting to come true even on my very small scale. you can do it, i promise. thanks for letting me share, I don’t have many people i can talk to about this who will understand.

EDIT: first of all, you're all beautiful people. Thank you so much. Second, here is my band if you're curious. Please check us out on facebookas well if that's cool, the only reason we got to play this show is because of likes and whatnot. I love all of you so much, thank you.
