Itinerary check - 05/08 - 19/08

Hey there,

Itinerary check here. Have my flights booked (including ones to hokkaido) and am looking into accommodation at the moment. Planning on a nice hotel one or two nights and then Air B&B/private hostel room for the rest.

Planning on getting a 14-day JR pass for travel, tempted by the green car pass but am wondering if its worth it! We might be travelling around a lot on the first week so could make journeys more comfortable. Anyone tried this?

Aug 5th - Land in tokyo, recover!

Land in Tokyo about 7am. Check into hotel, spend the rest of the day just relaxing recovering from flight and hanging out in tokyo. Aiming for a nice hotel here as it's my other halfs bday!

Aug 6th- 9th - Flight to Hokkaido, hang out in Hokkaido

I have friends staying up near Wakkanai in Hokkaido so will be flying up to visit them for a few days. Flight at 10am from tokyo.

August 8th - Flight back to Tokyo, travel to Kyoto

Flight should get me back about 5pm. Plan on trying to get a shinkansen to kyoto and then get some accommodation there. (nothing confirmed yet so recommendations welcome! Night train also a possibility?)

August 9th - Explore Kyoto

Hang out in Kyoto! Recommendations welcome!

August 10th - Travel briefly to Osaka, Universal

Leave early and try and get to Universal Studios. When finished, travel to Hiroshima, stay in hiroshima. (Is a night train possible here to offload costs?)

August 11th - Hang out in Hiroshima

Hang out in Hiroshima, recommendations welcome. Plan to stay in hostel/hotel or ryokan.

August 12th - Hiroshima or Izumo?

Not 100% sure what to do here. I've heard Izuomo is worth visiting but don't want to rush either! If Izumo then I may stay another night, otherwise I'll travel back to tokyo via night train or shinkansen.

August 13th - 18th Tokyo

Either arrive on the 13th or night before (depending on Izumo travel, dont mind sacrificing a tokyo day to see it if its worth it). Plan to hang out a visit a few things.

• Tokyo Disneyland.
• Travel out to the Monkey park.
• Visit a small place in the suburbs where I visited years ago!
• Explore Tokyo and eat all of the food!

Planning on Air BnB here. Quick question about Air BnB here! I've heard its only legal in Ota Ku, however I would like to be closer to the city so we can see some of the nightlife etc. Are there any known issues getting an Air BnB closer to the city, outside of the "legal area" for Air BnB?

August 19th, fly home! Fly home and recover!

Main questions are:

• Is this list achievable?
• Worth upgrading the JR pass to green car?
• Aiming to offload some accommodation costs to night trains? Is this realistic?
• Am I crazy for booking Air BnB if its illegal? Trying to keep costs down!
