New Project: Refurbishing a Micke Desk

Hello!

I live in a country where Ikea is extremely inaccessible. A brand new Micke desk would set me back by ~$200 from re-sellers, so I purchased a second hand unit for around $36.

The whole unit is in good condition, save for the table top. The table top has a couple of nicks and scratches. I'm planning to restore it myself to cut cost, but I'd like to ask for expert opinion first.

First, would it be possible to fill in the nicked parts with a form of filler/sealant? Some of them are pretty deep so I know simply repainting wouldn't be enough.

Second, is it possible to paint on a Micke desk? I've encountered several tutorials on how to paint other IKEA desks but I'm not sure if they all have the same material. If yes, what is the best way to repaint it? Hope you could all share some tips.

I'd love to share a photo of its current state, unfortunately, the desk is in a different location.
