Steam pc version

Hey guys I decided to buy dark souls 1 for my pc. This is by far my favorite of the series and I wanted to get back into the pvp duels that I miss so much from the PS3 days.

I'm thinking the game is dead at this point I can't find any pvp invasions or duels (using red soapstone). Do I need to download the connectivity mod? Or is the game just dead at this point. I still see streams of pc pvp every now and then.
