New player, roll nightblade?

I'm a new player and I hate staffs so i want to play a stamina build i guess.. Nightblade seems the most fun but I actually have no idea and I read nearly everywhere that nightblades are bad and useless. I also read in someplaces that stamina characters as a whole are useless.. Can somebody clear this up for me? I don't want to invest a lot of hours in something useless.. I play on PS4 I don't know if that makes a difference.
