Prices and mentoring

Hey there!

Ive been very interested in this hobby for a long time. Finally have some funds to perhaps make the firsts steps. I was wondering, if it is possible to keep the monthly ( so to say ) costs down? I know there are people that always go for the newest parts etc. But If Im going to buy the parts only in case they break, it shouldnt be that bad right? That would be a bummer, if Id get in the air and have to stop month after cause of the high upkeep.

Also I was wondering if there is anyone keen enough out here to kind of mentor me trough the first steps?

I have a certain budget and have no gear. I would like to have someone I could ocassionally ask questions as im probably gonna have tons of them.
