The Quiet Earth (1985)

Edit: possible spoilers for the finale

I saw The Quiet Earth a few years ago and was reminded of it again recently while watching the finale. It's about a New Zealand man who wakes up and discovers he's one of very few people left on earth after a failed attempt to create an experimental global electrical grid at possibly some kind of nuclear power facility (that might be a bit off, I saw it a while ago). They refer to the disappearance of the rest of the population as "the event". I noticed in the finale when Nora is getting instructions from the physicist they refer to it as "the event chamber". There are a few other small similarities to the show which makes me wonder if some of the writers drew a bit of inspiration from this film or if it's just coincidental! I'm just curious if anyone has seen it and noticed any similarities, or if there has been any mention of this film in reference to the show?

I apologize if anything about this has been posted before, I didn't see anything in the search!
