1997 Vw Golf Mk1

Hi I have a 1997 Vw golf chico. Since yesterday it started making a loud thump noise when I drive,the faster i drive the faster the thump becomes.If the car stands still with the engine running there is no more thump. But as soon as i start driving the thump starts again. It sounds like it's keeping pace with how fast the wheels are turning or something.

Any idea what the noise could be ? Thank you :)
